Dental Sedation: Calming Your Dental Fears

Dental Sedation: Calming Your Dental Fears

August 30, 2017

Many people avoid dentists due to a fear of dental work, despite a gnawing pain that never goes away. It is this phobia that the team at Serenity Dental would like to address, and provide you with the knowledge that the dental industry has never been able to provide a more relaxed and calming environment than it can in today’s technologically advanced world. Below are a few of the options we provide to our patients to help them have the best dental experience available.

3 Hour Procedure Can Feel Like 15 Minutes

One of the options we provide is a mild sedative that is taken prior to and during your office visit. It will give you a relaxed feeling that might make your drowsy. Imagine being in a dental chair feeling sleepy, completely comfortable and relaxed; as opposed to the heart pounding, palm sweating experience you may have felt in the past! The whole procedure can feel like 15 minutes when in reality, 3 hours have passed. The medication will also provide an amnesiac effect, so you may not remember much (if anything) from your dental experience. However, if you do, what you will probably remember is the paraffin hand wax treatments, warming blankets, and comfortable neck pillows. The Serenity Dental team is eager to make your visit as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

The Soothing Effects of Nitrous Oxide

Another possible option used in our office is nitrous oxide, or laughing gas. This gas is colorless and usually odorless. The gas is given to our patients through a mask, and the effects are felt quickly, usually within 3 minutes. As is the case with every medication, the effects vary slightly from person to person, but typically the patient will feel a pleasant, tingling sensation along with alleviation from the fears and concerns that come from sitting in the dental chair. The effect of nitrous oxide leaves as quickly as it comes, allowing our patients to leave without any further disorientation or dizzying effects.

Your Comfort is Paramount

No matter what type of sedation you choose, rest assured that our team is dedicated to ensuring your dental health while keeping you calm and comfortable. Contact us today and find out for yourself how easy your dental appointments can be.
